Careers

Why Work With Us?

We are a community.

At Colorado Legal Services, we have a passion for public service, and we work collaboratively to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our clients. We also encourage our staff to participate in our many CLS state-wide initiatives, such as an active Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, affinity groups, and union/management committees. These committees make our workplace better and have a big impact on who we are as an organization.

We want you to grow.

We are committed to professional growth of all staff and provide opportunities to attend training programs and conferences that are relevant to their work. We also value mentorship and want to support our employees from within.

Your health matters to us.

We care for our employees by covering 100% of employee health, dental, and vision premiums, as well as covering a portion of dependent premiums. CLS gives employees the option of enrolling in a High Deductible Health Plan, with a Health Savings Account. CLS also offers flex spending accounts.

We embrace diversity.

At CLS, we value and respect our staffs’ diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are also committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-oppression within our organization, the legal system, and our client communities. We envision a fair, just, trusted, and harm reductionist legal system which emphasizes access to and implementation of true justice for every Coloradan.

We are flexible.

Most employees work a hybrid schedule, working most days in the office and some days from home. Schedules vary depending on the position and needs of the unit, the team, and our clients, and are arranged directly with the employee’s supervisor.

We give you time for you.

Taking time off is important for employee wellness, and we encourage our employees to take their time off.  We offer 13 paid holidays per year and generous annual and health leave which accrue each pay period. Our leave policies also provide up to 4 personal days per year and allow for paid bereavement leave, health leave, and parental leave – to name a few.

We help you save for your future.

We contribute $200 per month to your retirement through a 403(b) plan and CLS provides a 100% match up to 3% of your salary.

An exceptional first- or second-year law student from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law or the University of Colorado Law School will be selected as the recipient of the 2025 Hill & Robbins Paid Internship.

The Hill & Robbins Internship was established in 1996 to encourage law students to do work in the public interest. Each year, a student from CU or DU is awarded the internship to work on a public interest project either through the Colorado Lawyers Committee (CLC) or Colorado Legal Services (CLS). Past projects have included the Casillas Pesticide Project to improve the health of Colorado migrant farm workers, the Giardino school capital construction litigation, the Taylor Ranch litigation, and various other ongoing projects within CLC and CLS.

The intern will begin working with applicants and clients on the very first day and can expect to feel essential to our office staff. The intern would perform a variety of duties depending on their experience levels and the needs of the division at the time of the internship.

The legal work within the internship may include drafting of pleadings, motions and notices in Dissolution of Marriage and Allocation of Parental Responsibilities actions as well as drafting legal research memoranda and briefs. In addition, the Intern will assist the Family and Children Unit – Intake division in the implementation and expansion of brief services clinics, including community outreach activities to learn more about the needs of our clients and how the Family and Children Unit – Intake Division’s clinics can best meet and serve income-eligible clients in our community.

The position is full-time work for ten weeks during the summer of 2025. The student will receive a stipend of $7,000.

The Intern must have strong, analytical, research and writing skills as well as the ability to work well with other people. The intern should have a strong commitment to public interest law and survivors of domestic violence. The Hill & Robbins Intern should be an individual with absolute reliability, initiative, and responsibility. Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.

CLS is an equal opportunity employer.

Interested students should submit a cover letter and resume, along with one to three written recommendations concerning the applicant’s research and writing skills and suitability for the position. The application deadline is February 28, 2025. Interviews will be held in early March 2025.
